- In Ancient Greek times, the city of Athens was the most important of the Greek city-states. Named after Athena, the goddess of wisdom, it is often considered to be the birthplace of Western civilisation. Read the materials on Ancient Athens found in the resource pack. Use it to construct the front page of a newspaper that includes news, sport, entertainment and gossip about the city.
